Happy August from Cape Town :-) PDF Print E-mail

It's hard to believe that we've been here a whole week already. Time is flying by and I think the people and landscape of Cape Town has captured the hearts of our team members. This morning the team finished restoring the desks and prepared for "maths" for the "grade 5" students. The desks look wonderful and the principal seemed very grateful to have them back in working condition. After lunch we were surprised to be part of a "thank you" reception given to us and another team of teachers from Chicago who have been at Mokone Primary School as well. I was so humbled how out of their poverty they provided a lovely reception of local savory treats and sodas for us. They all made sure we each had seats food and sodas before they served themselves. It was quite humbling and yummy too :-)

We went directly to the grade 5 students who were waiting for us. Kelly set us up with math games to improve their skills. As a teacher I am so touched and excited to see students who WANT to stay after school to learn. Not only that, but many stay after the tutoring to clean up the class room! The conditions are quite cramped and dusty, but they don't complain. They are so patient with each other and me that its quite a joy to work with them. It is sad to note though, despite the fact that they are in 5th grade, they struggle with anything above addition...Tomorrow will be our last day at Mokone Primary School. I fear tears will be shead from both the students and our team.

Thank you for your prayers. We ask that you would be please continue and be in prayer for the following:

- Tomorrow we will be making gospel bracelets with the grade 5 students. Please pray that we would be able to communicate the gospel effectively to the children and that many will come to know Christ.

- In the morning we will be doing "shack to shack" ministry in Barcelona. Again, please pray that we would be effective inour communication of the Gospel and that many would come to know Him.

-Please be praying for the teachers and students at Mokone Primary as the task of getting the children to perform at grade level is huge and teh teachers need much support and direction.

Prayer Points

Discernment: Philippians 1:9-11

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God

Spiritual Warfare: Eph 6:10-12

Finally, be strong in the Lord and mighty in His power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rules, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Boldness: Eph 6:19

Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel

Protection: Psalm 91:9-10

Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place – the Most High who is my refuge – no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.

Strength: Isaiah 40:31

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faith.

Restoration: Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness the prisoners.
